ASPEN, COLORADO—The Aspen Music Festival and School (AMFS) has announced the appointment of distinguished violin pedagogue Kathleen Winkler as an AMFS artist-faculty member.
Says AMFS President and CEO Alan Fletcher, “Kathy is a consummate musician and teacher, mentoring young violinists at the very highest level. Formerly on the faculty of the Oberlin Conservatory and The Cleveland Institute of Music, as well as serving as a visiting professor at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music and the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, Ms. Winkler has been a professor of violin at The Shepherd School of Music for the past 21 years, holding the Dorothy Richard Starling Chair in Classical Violin since 2011 and the university’s prestigious Julia Mile Chance Award for excellence in teaching .
She attended Indiana University where she received her Bachelor of Music degree, magna cum laude, as well as the coveted Performer's Certificate. She also attended the University of Michigan where she received her Master of Music degree, summa cum laude.
