THERESA LEONARD APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF THE EDGAR STANTON AUDIO RECORDING CENTER
AT THE ASPEN MUSIC FESTIVAL AND SCHOOL
Internationally respected classical music producer and audio educator to take helm in Aspen
Leonard will direct the AMFS’s professional recordings and broadcasts and revitalize a program of ongoing professional education within the center
ASPEN, COLORADO—Aspen Music Festival and School president and CEO Alan Fletcher announced today that Theresa Leonard will join the organization as Director of the Edgar Stanton Audio Recording Center. She will oversee all the recordings and broadcasts as well as the summer training program for audio engineers.
Leonard served as director of audio at Banff Centre for nearly 21 years where she was instrumental in growing the audio education program to international status while also overseeing all of the center’s recording and audio post-production projects.
A highly accomplished engineer, she has produced and engineered Juno award-winning and nominated recordings for many labels. An equally respected educator, she has held positions with Bang & Olufsen in Denmark (2008), at New York University Steinhardt School (2015) and with the Stanford Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) summer workshop (2004). She has consulted with a variety of post-secondary institutions including The Peabody Institute at John Hopkins University, The Schulich School of Music at McGill University, Ball State University, University of Massachusetts Lowell and The Royal Conservatoire, The Hague.
President and education chair of the Audio Engineering Society in 2004-05, Leonard was presented in 2013 with the AES Fellowship Award for her professional achievements and dedication to AES and to its education initiatives. Leonard holds a Master of Music degree in sound recording from McGill University, and bachelor’s degrees in both music and education. (Full bio can be found at http://www.aes.org/aes/theresaleonard.)
“I am immensely pleased Theresa Leonard will be coming on board and leading all aspects of audio production for us,” says Fletcher. “Her depth of knowledge and experience on the practical, hands-on side of engineering as well as in developing programs rich in opportunities for ongoing professional development make her the ideal match for us here in Aspen.”
Says Leonard, “I am thrilled to be offered this incredible opportunity with the Aspen Music Festival and School. It seems a perfect fit and comes at the most appropriate time in my life and recording career. I am excited to continue to grow the audio area as Director of the Edgar Stanton Audio Recording Center and to learn from the extraordinary staff and faculty who have built this international festival over many years.”
Leonard will start in June 2019.
