Peter Barber
Bass-Baritone
Peter Barber is an American bass singer, and graduate of the prestigious Academy of Vocal Arts. He has performed over 30 operatic roles, including; Don Giovanni (Don Giovanni), Bottom (A Midsummer Night's Dream), Colline (La Bohème), and the King of Egypt (Aida). Peter is currently a studio artist at Arizona Opera, and will be returning to AMFS for a 2nd season. Outside the opera world, he has built an online following of over half a million people. Peter is also a founding member of The Bass Gang, an award-winning group with over 100,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.
Ashlyn Brown
Mezzo
Ashlyn Brown, Fleming Artist, sings Dorabella (Così fan tutte) and is the alto soloist in Handel’s Messiah. Recently, this lyric-mezzo soprano joined Palm Beach Opera as a Young Artist where she sang Stéphano (Roméo et Juliette), Flora (La Traviata), and covered Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro). Last summer, Ashlyn debuted Zweite Adlige Weise (Der Rosenkavalier) and Woman 2/ Event Planner (The Righteous) at Santa Fe Opera. Prior engagements include apprenticeships with Santa Fe Opera, Palm Beach Opera, and Sarasota Opera. Recent awards include Metropolitan Opera Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition (Florida District Winner), Santa Fe Opera (Donald and Luke Grahm Memorial).
Jason Edelstein
Baritone
Hailing from Paramus, NJ, Jason Edelstein, baritone, recently earned his master’s in Opera Performance from Boston Conservatory at Berklee, studying with Sandra Piques Eddy. He is making his role debut this summer as Schaunard in Puccini’s La Bohème. His recent credits include Guglielmo in Mozart’s Così fan tutte, John Buchanan in Hoiby’s Summer and Smoke, Demetrius in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Baritone in Peterson’s Voir Dire, Prince Hérisson in Chabrier’s L’étoile, Steward in Dove’s Flight, Jake in Weill’s The Threepenny Opera, Falke in Strauss’s Die Fledermaus, Giuseppe in G&S’s The Gondoliers, and Booth in Sondheim’s Assassins.
Sunghoon Han
Bass-Baritone
Sunghoon Han, bass-baritone from South Korea, appears by kind permission of the Metropolitan Opera Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. Highlights include roles at Aspen Opera Theater (Le nozze di Figaro, Gianni Schicchi), Indiana University (Eugene Onegin, La Finta Giardiniera), and Yonsei University (Don Giovanni, Così fan tutte). He debuted at Carnegie Hall in 2024 and was a winner of the Met’s Laffont Competition Indiana District and Central Region. An Aspen Renée Fleming Artist Fellow and Korea National Opera Studio alumnus, he holds a degree from Yonsei University and has excelled in major competitions including Gerda Lissner and MIOpera.
Joshua Hooker
Tenor
Tenor Josh Hooker hails from Midway, Utah, and holds a Master’s degree from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, where he studied with Carol Vaness. At IU he performed roles such as Lensky in Eugene Onegin and Don José in Carmen. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Utah Valley University, studying with Isaac Hurtado, and performed as Hoffmann in Tales of Hoffmann. He made his professional debut with Lyrical Opera Theater as Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor and Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi. Josh enjoys whitewater rafting, snowmobiling, and going on horseback rides with his wife and two children.
Laura Miah
Soprano
Laura Miah is a Puerto Rican soprano and Master’s student in Opera at Yale School of Music. Her roles include Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, and Amy in The Snowy Day. She has performed with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra and Youth Symphony, and soloed in works like Mozart’s Requiem and Vivaldi’s Gloria. Miah has received multiple awards from the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition and was a finalist in the Florida Grand Opera National Voice Competition. She has participated in programs such as the Houston Grand Opera’s Young Artist Academy and Ravinia Festival.
Virginia Mims
Soprano
During the 2024-25 season, Virginia Mims returns to the role of Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro with Sarasota Opera, having debuted the role at Brevard Music Center in 2017. Additionally, she will be singing excerpts from La Traviata and Rigoletto on their “Music of Giuseppe Verdi” Concert. This season, Virginia made her Carnegie Hall debut singing Soprano Solos in Taylor Scott Davis’ acclaimed Magnificat. Role credits include Mimì (La Bohème) at Sachsenwald Forum (Reinbek, DE); Musetta (La Bohème), Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare), Mary Bailey (It’s A Wonderful Life by Heggie), Blumenmädchen (Parsifal), and Zemfira (Aleko) at Indiana University.
Jacob O'Shea
Baritone
Baritone Jacob O’Shea is an up-and-coming talent known for his dynamic stage presence and rich voice. O’Shea is an alumnus of several noteworthy training programs including the Seagle Festival, Boston University Opera Institute, Central City Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera and Palm Beach Opera. Equally at home in standard repertoire and new works, role highlights include Dr Gibbs (Our Town), Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Jailer (Tosca), and Paul (Heggie’s If I Were You). O’Shea holds a BM in Vocal Performance from Syracuse University, an MM in Vocal Performance from Boston University and currently studies under Bill McGraw.
Jonghyun Park
Tenor
Korean tenor Jonghyun Park returns to the Met for his second year in the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program, where he will sing the First Prisoner and cover Jaquino in Fidelio and sing the Sergeant in Il Barbiere di Siviglia. Later in the 2024–25 season, he will sing the roles of the Shepherd and the Sailor in a concert production of Tristan und Isolde with The Philadelphia Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin. He made his Met debut last season as the First Guard in The Magic Flute then covered the role of Tybalt in Roméo et Juliette.
Jennifer Robinson
Soprano
Jennifer Robinson, a 22-year-old Soprano, is thrilled to be joining the AMFS Roster for the 2025 year. Jennifer has recently gained recognition from the Opera Index Foundation, receiving an Emerging Artist Award and a generous sponsorship for extended studies in France this upcoming year. Her voice, praised for its tone and emotional depth, has been described as a “true artist’s” instrument, capable of conveying extensive emotion and nuance. Her repertoire is wide-ranging and versatile. Jennifer’s early achievements reflect her dedication to her craft and her potential for a luminous future in opera.
Finn Sagal
Baritone
The first-year Ryan Opera Center baritone from La Cañada, California, has performed at Lincoln Center, 54 Below, and the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas with such luminaries as Liza Minnelli, Michael Feinstein, and Kristin Chenoweth. Sagal participated in the 2023 Merola Opera Program and, in 2022, the Aspen Opera Theater and VocalARTS Program. He recently received a master's degree at the Yale School of Music, where he performed the roles of Junius/The Rape of Lucretia, the Tutor/Le Comte Ory, and Nick Shadow/The Rake's Progress. Recently Finn was the third prize winner at the 2024 Neue Stimmen International Opera Competition.
Melanie Spector
Soprano
Melanie Spector is a New York-born soprano and recent graduate of the Detroit Opera Resident Artist Program. This season, Melanie sings in the Eastern Region Finals of the 2025 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, having been named a winner of the New York District, and she covers the title role in Theofanidis and Studdard's Siddhartha, She at the Aspen Music Festival as a Renée Fleming Artist. Past credits include High Priestess (Aida) and Chocholka (Cunning Little Vixen) at Detroit Opera, Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) at Savannah Opera and Opera Tampa, and Queen of the Night (Die Zauberflöte) with Eugene Opera and the Stuttgart Philharmonic.
Kayla Rae Stein
Soprano
Kayla Stein is a soprano from Chicago, IL pursuing her Master’s of Music at The Juilliard School under the tutelage of Darrell Babidge. This year, Kayla performed Fiordiligi and Mrs. Grose in Juilliard’s productions of Così fan tutte and Turn of the Screw. Last year at Juilliard, Stein performed Knussen’s Requiem: Songs for Sue with AXIOM Ensemble in Alice Tully Hall, covered Elaine in Musto’s Later the Same Evening, and played Micaëla in the AD Carmen Project. She also performed Micaëla in Carmen last summer at Music Academy of the West. Kayla earned her Bachelor's from Eastman School of Music.
Lauren Carroll
Soprano
Lauren Carroll was a Young Artist with Palm Beach Opera for the 2024–2025 season. She made her debut as Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro and covered the roles of Juliette in Roméo et Juliette and Violetta in La Traviata. In the summer of 2025, Ms. Carroll is a Fleming Fellow, and sings Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte with the Aspen Music Festival. During summer 2024, she performed the role of Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel with AMFS. Ms. Carroll has also been an Apprentice Artist with Des Moines Metro Opera. Ms. Carroll received her MM from Rice University.
Yichen Xue
Baritone
Yichen Xue, a baritone from Anshan, China, is a recipient of the Opera Index Competition 2023 Emerging Artist Award and Gerda Lissner Competition 2024 Finalist and Grant Winner. He graduated from Manhattan School of Music and received his Master’s from Hunter College, studying with Ron Raines. Yichen is currently a Marion Roose Pullin Studio Artist at Arizona Opera. Last summer, he was a Studio Artist at Wolf Trap Opera. At Arizona Opera, he will debut as Schaunard in La Bohème. In summer 2025, he will join the Aspen Music Festival as a Renée Fleming Artist, singing Marcello in La Bohème.
