Tenor Trombone

The Aspen Music Festival and School tenor trombone department offers the opportunity to play premier assignments alongside artist-faculty from major U.S. orchestras or as principal in a variety of ensembles. Important Program Information

  • VIDEO audition recordings are required.
  • Tenor trombone must audition with tenor trombone repertoire.
  • Bass trombone must audition with bass trombone repertoire.
  • The Aspen Chamber Symphony (ACS) tenor trombone fellowship recipient is chosen from the general applicant pool.
  • Additional repertoire is required for euphonium consideration.
  • Students under the age of 18 do not play in orchestra but may take private lessons and participate in chamber music.

How to Apply

APPLICATION OPENS SEPTEMBER 15

  • Two letters of recommendation encouraged but not required

TENOR TROMBONE REPERTOIRE

All tenor trombone applicants must submit the tenor trombone repertoire for a total of 5 or 6 INDIVIDUAL VIDEO TRACKS. 

  • Two contrasting solo movements (fast, slow); accompaniment not required
  • MOZART: Requiem, K. 626 (“Tuba mirum”)
  • ROSSINI: La Gazza Ladra (Overture)
  • RAVEL: Bolero
  • OPTIONAL: An additional work of your choice by an underrepresented composer (maximum of 3 minutes of any portion of that work)

EUPHONIUM REPERTOIRE (full session only)

To be considered for euphonium placement please submit the following excerpt, for a total of 6 or 7 INDIVIDUAL VIDEO TRACKS.
